Pros

Only widely available native 5K monitor (5120×2880) — perfect 2x Retina on macOS
Thunderbolt 3 with 96W power delivery — single cable charges MacBook Pro 16"
94% DCI-P3, factory calibrated ΔE < 1 — excellent out-of-box color
3× USB-C downstream ports (5 Gbps) + 3.5 mm audio — built-in dock
Fully adjustable stand (height, tilt, 90° pivot) included
Zero-flicker, low blue light mode, hardware calibration support

Cons

Thunderbolt 3 only (not TB4/USB4) — limited to 40 Gbps, no daisy-chain 5K
60 Hz only — no high refresh rate option
IPS glow visible in dark rooms; contrast ~1000:1 (not OLED/Mini-LED)
Design hasn't changed since 2019 — thick bezels, plastic back
Expensive vs. 4K 27" alternatives; Windows scaling still imperfect

Who Should Buy This

Mac users wanting true Retina sharpness at 27" (not 24" or 32")
Developers/designers needing integer scaling without blur
Anyone wanting single-cable 96W docking for MacBook Pro

Our Verdict

The **LG UltraFine 27" 5K (27MD5KL-B)** remains the **only monitor that gives macOS users true 2x Retina scaling at 27 inches**. Thunderbolt 3 + 96W PD + 3× USB-C = perfect Mac dock. Color accuracy is excellent. But it's showing age: TB3 not TB4, 60 Hz only, IPS contrast, dated design. For Mac users, it's still the default choice. For Windows, look at 4K 120 Hz or 5K2K alternatives.
